Role Overview

Responsible for assigned activities within the Civil engineering discipline on the Western Sydney Airport project. Applies broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to project engineering with a focus on Aviation or Airport projects. Makes decisions independently concerning problems within the discipline on the project. Represents the discipline on the project and with the client to resolve technical questions and as required to coordinate work.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Responsible for the activities on a large size project in an engineering or scientific discipline.

  • Supervises and provides technical direction to subordinate engineering supervisors, engineers, specialists, scientists, designers and drafters.

  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.

  • Reviews and approves key engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries.

  • Requires a broad knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, and design criteria pertinent to the particular discipline as it applies to Aviation or Airport projects.

  • Coordinate and manage the interfaces between the Design work packages developed by 3rd Party engineering consultants and/or design firms.

  • Assist the Design Manager with the timely delivery of the Design work packages developed by 3rd Party engineering consultants and/or design firms.

  • Requires a good knowledge of Bechtel’s administrative practices and supervisory experience.

Job Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of engineering techniques, design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations.

  • Knowledge of Aviation related industry/regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the particular discipline.

  • A broad knowledge of the application of engineering to infrastructure constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of computer applications to engineering and design.

  • Working knowledge of engineering planning and control methods.

  • A broad knowledge of precedents in Civil/Structural Engineering and a good knowledge of principles and practices of related technical areas.

  • A knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved.

  • Requires a broad knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, and design criteria pertinent to the particular discipline.

  • Requires a good knowledge of Bechtel’s administrative practices and supervisory experience.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience

  • Supervisory experience

  • Registered Professional Engineer (RPEng) or equivalent license in Civil Engineering

  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university

  • Previous Bechtel working experience

  • Experience in supervision of engineers and CAD designers

  • Experience in Aviation industry and land development industry

  • Noted experience in one or more of the following areas: Terminals, Airside, Roadways, Utilities, Cargo and Infrastructure

  • Experience in managing 3rd Party Design Consultants or Subcontractors
