SUMMARY:

Plans, coordinates and directs activities and has technical accountability for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating the MEP engineering work on a large complex project. The work elements include HVAC, fire protection, plumbing, and drainage designs. The MEP Engineering Lead is accountable for the timely delivery of the Design work packages developed by 3 rd Party engineering consultants and/or design firms. Reports to the Project Manager and ensures that the full scope of MEP systems and equipment is delivered to the Project requirements.

JOB DIMENSIONS:

  • Receives operational supervision from the Design Manager. Receives administrative supervision from a global business unit Engineering Functional Manger in terms of broad general objectives and limits.

  • Exercises functional direction over assigned Engineers and Engineering Leads.

  • Participates in contacts with the client on matters relating to MEP engineering progress and quality. Participates, as appropriate, in contacts with prospective and present clients to help develop new business for the global business unit.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Directs and provides technical and administrative guidance to assigned Project and/or discipline Engineers in the management of MEP engineering on the project.

  • Keeps informed on the status of project issues involving assigned personnel with respect to schedule, budget, work quality and client satisfaction, and contributes leadership, experience and expertise in the solution of difficult problems.

  • Reporting to the Design Manager on Engineering performance on cost, progress and technical issues.

  • Coordinating, facilitating and managing the interfaces, including 3rd party access and approvals between the contractor and other parties both internal and external.

  • Managing and monitoring the 3rd Party designer’s performance with relation to schedule and cost control.

  • Coordinate the review and acceptance of 3rd Party produced design documents.

  • Coordinating the supply of technical information to the designer to allow the programme to progress.

  • Inputs to and owns the engineering elements of a project capital estimate (proposals and execution) quantities and budgets.

  • Reviews changes or deviations in MEP scope, material quantities, budget or schedule, and assists particularly with defining the change, obtaining accurate estimates of the hours involved, and recommending budget adjustment.

  • Formulates and recommends for approval, engineering execution plans and programs for assigned projects.

  • Inputs to, owns and reviews MEP engineering schedules and approves staffing estimates for MEP engineering personnel for new proposals and jobs as assigned.

  • Reviews staffing plans on all assignments.

  • Conducts annual performance reviews in accordance with approved procedures and holds career development discussions.

  • Participates in project planning prior to proposals to provide technical guidance in the engineering and construction review of proposals.

  • Monitors the use of available MEP engineering computer programs, technical advances and engineering control techniques on the projects assigned.

  • Champions the creation of a work environment, supported by leadership, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction on the project or program.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience managing MEP engineering design efforts including management of 3rd Party designers with a minimum of 2 large infrastructure projects,

  • Aviation project experience

  • Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory/local codes and standards and design criteria in MEP engineering. Aviation project experience

  • Extensive technical knowledge of MEP engineering systems, calculations, applications of engineering methods and materials and applications of 3-D computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided engineering (CAE) to engineering problems.

  • Proficient knowledge of activities and operations in other functions including procurement, construction, environmental safety and health (ES&H), and quality assurance.

  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication including technical writing.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, open-minded with an energetic and proactive personal style.

  • Experience in complex stakeholder management and negotiation.

  • Proficient in negotiation for dealing with client representatives.

  • A recognized degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering from an accredited college or university

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A professional license in an engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board is preferred

  • Extensive progressive work experience, including supervision, preferably in project and staff design engineering.
