Job Overview:

This position is for an Architect who will prepare designs for buildings associated with rail and/ or aviation projects . The rail buildings will include stations (deep underground, shallow, at-grade and elevated), depot facilities and traction power substations. The aviation buildings may include terminal buildings, maintenance facilities, hangar buildings, cargo facilities, and support/ services buildings. The Architect is responsible for direct production of design work by Bechtel as well as for coordinating the scope and integration of work assigned to subcontracted design entities. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, and the desire to innovate designs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of original architectural designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications for buildings on rail and/ or aviation projects

  • Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the architectural work for buildings

  • Understand and perform the standard architectural work planning, scheduling, and job hour estimating process

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with project budgets, schedules, quantities and quality requirements

  • Review and check work of other architects as assigned

  • Coordinate and integrate design work between the architectural discipline and other engineering disciplines

  • Review and approve key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders for rail and/ or aviation projects

  • Prepare procurement and subcontract requisition documents and perform associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations

  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of cost estimates and quantity take-offs for the architectural elements of rail and/ or aviation buildings

  • Resolve technical issues with construction and travel to the project’s site to assist as required

Job Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of architectural design, production techniques, building materials, and construction methods for development of rail and/ or aviation buildings project deliverables.

  • Understands technical issues and cost related to selection of design features and unique architectural requirements.

  • Broad knowledge of the building industry, regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to rail and/ or aviation building architectural work

  • Experienced with the practices and procedures of US as well as International Design Codes and Standards, including NFPA 130

  • Perform code reviews and generate code compliance reports/ drawings

  • Has experience with engineering work planning, scheduling and cost estimating

  • Skilled in oral and written communication

  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions

  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills

  • Understanding of engineering planning and control methods

  • Experienced with producing a full, well-coordinated, detailed set of architectural construction documents

  • Experienced with coordinating a multi-discipline design team

  • Experienced with managing knowledge of sustainability and its integration into the design and the construction of rail buildings

  • Skilled in assessing the scope of problems and developing practical solutions

  • Proficient with Autodesk design suite (e.g. Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD) to originate 3D model content and produce design deliverables in a multidisciplinary model environment

  • Proficient in model viewing software (e.g. Autodesk Navisworks) to present 3D model imagery for formal and informal 3D model reviews

  • Has a very god working knowledge of physical building components and delivery/execution to support physical and technical design effort

  • Has the ability to develop Revit families as needed and coordinate with the Discipline SME for maintaining and expanding Building type library

  • Has the ability to update and coordinate project specific templates with Architectural Discipline Subject Matter Expert (SME)

  • Has the ability to develop project detail library and approval from the Architectural Chief Engineer

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in architectural design of buildings, including experience with rail and/ or aviation projects

  • Practical work experience sufficient to demonstrate competence and breadth in architectural design

  • Must have the right to work and remain in the US without visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited college or university

  • US Professional Architects Registration and/ or Professional Architects Registration in a Canadian Province

  • Active participation in professional association(s) for architecture

  • LEED certified professional
