The total number of hires and start dates are subject to workload and business conditions. Locations will vary based on project needs, and may include Houston, TX and Reston, VA, along with various project sites.
General Job Duties
Mechanical and systems engineers lead the engineering design, specification, and support of:
Industrial, petrochemical, aerospace, and military facilities
Railways, airports, ports, and industrial cities
Mechanical equipment, fire protection, and HVAC systems
Biological, chemical, and radioactive waste treatment plants
Equipment troubleshooting and operating plant services
Materials engineering and technology
Systems engineering and configuration management
Nuclear, fossil, and renewable fuel power plants
Select and specify equipment
Prepare flow or detailed system piping and instrumentation diagrams
Perform system and equipment sizing calculations
Establish facility design requirements and develop the system safety basis
Review supplier designs
Prepare ventilation and instrumentation diagrams
Perform corrosion and erosion evaluations for systems and equipment
Author work processes and procedures

Advance Simulation: Using simulation tools and methods to help develop design concepts and detailed engineering plans
Field/Construction: Facilitating build process on-site by modifying engineering documents to support a successful construction operation
Plant Design & Piping: Reviewing & designing the placement of plant equipment, systems and piping to ensure optimal space utilization
Project Estimating, Scheduling & Cost Control: Estimating costs of projects and developing project schedules by providing an objective view of project performance
Quality Assurance: Reviewing our work to ensure it meets or exceeds Bechtel’s quality standards and our customers’ quality expectations
Startup & Facility Operations: Testing, calibrating and verifying mechanical and electrical equipment and systems on a project site to have it ready for “turn on,” with an operating manual
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university within twelve (12) months of graduation date
Basic knowledge of engineering design, systems, calculations, along with application of engineering methods and construction methods & materials
Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the U.S. without sponsorship
Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites
Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or University within twelve (12) months of graduation date
Completed relevant coursework with a strong GPA
Prior co-op or internship experience
Excellent written and oral communication skills
