The Materials Engineering Technology (MET) team is increasing capabilities to support projects in the Oil, Gas and Chemicals, Power and Mining and Metals business unit of Bechtel Global. There is a requirement at the New Delhi office for an experienced professional Materials Engineer, qualified to degree level in the practice of Materials Engineering, Corrosion Engineering and Metallurgy. A minimum of twenty years’ industrial experience in EPC engineering is required for this position. Candidate should have held a senior industrial position in materials engineering technology and corrosion science/engineering.
The Materials Engineer will perform following duties:
Establish metallurgical requirements for equipment and piping in petroleum refineries, petrochemical plants, power plants, metal & mining facilities
Develop technical specifications for materials and testing, NDT and corrosion control
Develop material selection philosophy reports and material selection diagrams
Support to engineering disciplines in preparation of data sheets and requisition packages
Review of metallurgical content of technical bids
Post award technical support including vendor print review, resolving MET-related queries with vendors
Perform corrosion assessments
Support the project through construction and commissioning phases
Perform materials engineering activities on projects independently and provide technical supervision for a group of junior engineers
Devise practical approaches to solving CP problems.
Design CP systems for equipment, pipelines and piping associated with petroleum refineries, petrochemical plants, and power plants
Develop technical specifications for CP
Work with other engineering disciplines to ensure CP requirements are addressed.
Requisition CP materials
Provide support to Procurement during purchase of CP equipment
Perform CP activities on projects with minimal technical oversight.
Specific capabilities required for the role include:
A sound knowledge of material damage mechanisms associated with petroleum refineries, petrochemical plants and power plants
Knowledge of international materials standards and testing, pressure vessel and piping fabrication codes
Experience in engineering of oil/gas production plant, petroleum refineries, pipelines, petrochemical plant, power plants, metal and mining
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of Materials Engineering
Ability to coordinate work with other engineering disciplines.
Experience in design of CP system for onshore plant
Knowledge of international CP standards
Familiar with electrical codes
Training and education required:
A relevant engineering or scientific discipline degree (BSc, BEng or equivalent)
Qualified to NACE Corrosion Technologist and Cathodic Protection Specialist (Level 2 and above) or equivalent internationally recognized standard is preferable.
Specialized training in the corrosion and material selection
A sound knowledge of electrochemistry
Candidate will be required to:
Plan and conduct independent work within the New Delhi Execution Unit, using sound judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria
Devise practical approaches to solving materials engineering problems
Coordinates technical issues with other departments on projects including constructability requirements and reviews
Travel to support activities at construction sites, supplier’s works or in other engineering offices
The materials engineer will work as part of Global MET team and should preferably have basic knowledge of other materials related technologies including:
Paint and coatings
